Suggestions for ISC Computer Science – Advice from the Council

Below mentioned are few of the important piece of advice shared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for students appearing for their ISC Computer Science examination. I hope the students find this beneficial.

Suggestions for students:

  1. Apart from Text book learning, look up other reliable resources to gather comprehensive knowledge of the subject.
  2. Prepare summary for each chapter or use highlighters to recognize important terms and definitions. Knowledge of the prescribed syllabus and its scope is very important.
  3. Answers and definitions should be short and precise and according to marks allotted. Important words and terms should be underlined or highlighted.
  4. Working should be shown at the side of each question wherever required.
  5. Laws must be mentioned while reducing a Boolean Expression.
  6. Practice one form of K-Map with proper place value for both SOP and POS.
  7. In programming, documentation is compulsory and should be mentioned with each program.
  8. Declare the class with data members and member functions. Expand or define each function according to the instructions given by the side of each function.
  9. Do not memorize the program, try to understand the logic.
  10. Practice constructors with every program.
  11. Treat each function of a class as separate program.

  1. Is algorithm in theory papers for programs where the question does’nt ask for algorithm needed?

  2. can we use the highlighter for underlining the basic points

  3. dear sir what is the meaning of”laws mentioned for reducing the boolean expression”
and can we use highlighters or black pen rather than blue in board exams

    • “law must be mentioned while reducing the boolean expresion” means that in every step when you are using some laws to reduce the given expression, then you have to mention that particular law.

      Example :
      ABC + ABAB
= ABC + AB [Idempotent Law]
      = AB (C + 1)
= AB [Properties of 1 or Null Law]

With regards to your query on using black pens:

“Candidates are required to write their answers with black ink pens. Fountain pens and ballpoint pens may be used, but pencils may be used only for diagrams.”

      Do not use highlighter.

Could u please tell what is meant by documentation.?
( Thankyou so much for sharing these information)

    • In this you need to write comments in your program and after you have finished writing your program, write the Data Description Table for it which consists of mostly 3 columns – Identifier/Variable Name, Data Type and Purpose.
